Squeedunk Cormorant Build Log Page 4

The boat is ready for it's first outing. The hatches have been taped down. The fastening system isn't yet in place. The bulkheads have been installed and the front bulkhead will be used as a footrest. I have yet to install a back rest or seat. Still, it's water tight, so its time to give it a go.

Here it is on my short weeds. View is stern facing forward. Was a lovely sunny day.

Another shot looking straight over the bow.

Here I am sitting in the boat. I had a heck of a time getting the spray deck on. Decided not to go with that spray deck for that boat.

Another shot of me. Hey this thing might work after all!

We took the boat to the San Leandro Marina in San Leandro California. First thing I did was put it in the water and watch how it floats.

Having confirmed that it didn't sink on contact with water, I pulled the boat over so that I could get in.

Here I am sliding off the dock into the boat. Felt very different from my QCC 500!

I'm on the way, thing feels kinda tender.

Still feels tender, but I mess with the seating position a bit and it gets better.

There we go. Needs a seat.

I'm heading back.

Wow! This thing is light as a feather.

Here I am at the dock once again. The boat is a bit more finished. I put a block of gray foam against the rear bulkhead as a back support. I also installed Babina style hatch hold downs and deck rigging.

Oops. The back block is a bit too big. I can't get my spray skirt to attach properly. Oh well. It's a lovely day and I'm not planning on capsizing.

Off I go. Happily, that area of the marina is very protected so I was able to paddle around in comfort.

Getting back to the dock. You notice that I am a bit heavy for the boat. It's supposed to hold 220lb and I am at least that.

Whoo Hoo! I'm still so stoked that it floats.

Leaning on the dock. I made it!

A big grin before I haul myself out.

This is my significant other Linda. She is the photographer for any pictures that have me in them. We have been together since about the time I started working on this boat, so this is a pretty significant occasion for her to!
